If you do not have the admin password then you can use a live CD or Ubuntu Live USB to install Linux on a partition on your hard drive.

Partition You Windows 10 Hard Drive

To partition your hard drive to make space for the Linux installation you will need to follow the below steps.

  1. Search for DISKMGMT.MSC in the Windows search bar.
  2. Now right-click on your main hard drive.
  3. Choose to shrink the volume of the hard drive.
  4. Select a size you would like to shrink by we recommend at least 30GB.
  5. Click on Shrink to start shrinking the Windows volume.

Once you have done the above steps it’s time to make a bootable USB hard drive with the Ubuntu ISO on.

Make A Ubuntu Linux Bootable USB

You will need to download a Linux operating system of choice we highly recommend Ubuntu as it’s one of the leading Linux OSs.

Once you have downloaded the Ubuntu ISO follow the below steps to burn the ISO to a USB flash drive.

  1. Insert the USB flash drive into your Windows PC.
  2. Download and install Rufus on your Windows system.
  3. Open Rufus and under Device chooses your USB flash drive.
  4. Under boot selection choose “Disk or ISO image”.
  5. Then click select and choose the Ubuntu ISO download.
  6. Change the file system to FAT32.
  7. Now click on Start and wait for the process to finish.

After you have completed the above it’s time to reboot your Windows PC but choose to boot from the USB flash drive we have the steps below.

You will be restarting windows a certain way so it reboots and reads off your USB flash drive instead of booting straight into the Windows interface.

  1. Click on the Windows start menu.
  2. Hold down the SHIFT key then click Restart.
  3. Select Use a Device.
  4. Choose your USB Flash drive.
  5. Now your Windows PC will boot into the Ubuntu Linux.
